Fire officials say a woman in her 20s apparently fell to her death while picking opihi on the rocky shoreline near the 15-mile marker of Highway 19 in the Hakalau area.

Fire officials say a woman in her 20s apparently fell to her death while picking opihi on the rocky shoreline near the 15-mile marker of Highway 19 in the Hakalau area.

A written statement said four fire units responded to a 1:14 p.m. call Saturday and a county helicopter extricated the woman’s body from the area.

Authorities haven’t released the woman’s identity.

The scene was turned over to Hawaii Police Department for investigation.
