This photograph from the Lyman Museum’s John Howard Pierce Photography Collection, No. 16288, was first published in the Oct. 15, 2016, edition of the Tribune-Herald. The photo was captured Nov. 2, 1961 in the Federal Building. Pictured is George M. Aoki who worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture as an extension agent. He visited farmers throughout the Big Island giving recommendations to treat crop diseases. He also introduced new technologies to farmers, such as a machine to pick coffee.
