Waiakea High School’s faculty and staff showed they were ready to begin the new school year by sporting their new Student Government Association 2017-18 themed-shirt, “We Are In … Inspired, Invested, Involved,” during a get-together Friday in the school gym.

After SGA president Leira Joyce Vea welcomed the faculty and staff, officers gave interpretations of the selected theme.

“We are inspired by the faculty and staff, our peers and our school environment,” said Angel Ai-Perreira, SGA vice president. “The faculty and staff encourage students to reach their greatest potential and consistently work toward making Waiakea High School the best that it can be.

“The faculty and staff also serve as mentors to all students and to each other. Our peers provide unconditional support whenever needed, thus, we enjoy coming to school. This allows for a welcoming and warm learning environment.”

“Because we are inspired, we are invested in our education,” said Marissa Iwahashi, SGA secretary. “We work together to achieve Waiakea High School’s mission and vision to become college and career ready and to be lifelong learners.”

“Because we are inspired and invested, we are involved,” added treasurer Aaron Ali Yu. “Faculty, staff and students are constantly involved in academic and student activities, athletics and community service, on and off campus. No matter how we get involved, we support our school and our students.”

The gathering ended with a resounding, “Let’s go Warriors!”
