• Nikki Nalani Nottingham graduated from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London, Conn., with a bachelor of science degree and a commission as an ensign.

Nikki Nalani Nottingham graduated from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London, Conn., with a bachelor of science degree and a commission as an ensign.

The U.S. Coast Guard Academy offers a four-year educational program designed to provide cadets the knowledge and experience essential to become leaders of character.

Cadets are required to devote themselves to an honor concept and after graduation go directly into positions of leadership in service to others.

Nottingham begins her service in the fleet as an intelligence officer aboard the Cutter Joshua James stationed in Charleston, S.C.

Nottingham is the daughter of Stephen Nottingham of Pahoa and Christianne Jones of Kailua and is a 2012 graduate of Pahoa High School.

• U.S. Air Force Air National Guard Airman 1st Class Joji K. Fong and Airman Cierra-Mae C. Keli‘i graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio.

The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

Airmen who complete basic training also earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

Fong is the son of Lawrence and stepson of Angela Fong of Hilo and a 2012 graduate of Waiakea High School.

Keli‘i is the daughter of Kris K. and Garnette A. Keli‘i of Hilo and a 2016 graduate of Hilo High School.
