Right on, Rick

Right on, Rick

I am writing in response to Rick LaMontagne’s letter of May 14 (Tribune-Herald, Your Views).

Rick, I want you to know, you made my day!

You are so right on, and I totally agree with you, about our lawmakers doing fundraisers to complete the rail. Why should we, the taxpayer, make up the difference for their mess?

I would like to know where the $1 billion in surplus we supposedly had last year is. Our state keeps cutting back on important things such as Child Welfare Services and elderly care workers, etc. Maybe if the state kept within its budget and used our tax money wisely, we wouldn’t have all the problems we do.

Dangerous headline

When what to my wondering eyes should appear, but BIG BLACK headlines in the Tribune-Herald stating, “Hitler was right.”

Someone not reading further in the article would think the Tribune-Herald was endorsing anti-Semitism, and there are enough kooks out there who would use this.

We had enough hatred in this world going on, and certainly don’t need it on our island of aloha. We should be encouraging love for our fellow human beings.

We are all different — race, gender, religion, culture and political views — but, as my grandma used to say, “We are all God’s children.”

I am 94 years old and remember well the devastation caused by Hitler’s Holocaust. So, please, let your readers know that you do not support anti-Semitism and the horrible Holocaust during Hitler’s reign.

You might even announce it in BIG BLACK letters.

Support for Carroll

I am writing in support of attorney and former lawmaker John Carroll. I have known him since 1986. He is a person of the highest virtue, with a heart of gold. He has contributed much to this state and society in general.

He does a tremendous amount of pro bono work. He has a sincere and deep compassion for individuals and humanity.

It would be worthwhile for the newspapers to note that he has withdrawn his voluntary resignation. Both sides of the story were not properly investigated. He appears to have been unfairly maligned.

My opinion is that he has a brilliant legal mind.
