The Nobu Yamauchi Seniors got off to a slow start in pool play Tuesday at the RBI World Series, losing 9-2 to Puerto Rico in Cincinnati.

The Nobu Yamauchi Seniors got off to a slow start in pool play Tuesday at the RBI World Series, losing 9-2 to Puerto Rico in Cincinnati.

Caleb Freitas-Fields tripled and he and Trayden Tamiya each collected two hits and an RBI for Hilo’s Nobu Yamauchi.

Carson Okada, the first of five pitchers, took the loss with 1 1/3 innings pitched. Jonah Hurney, Jamieson Hirayama, Casey Yamauchi and Justcye Ishii also pitched.

On Wednesday at the eight-team, 19U tournament, Nobu Yamauchi plays Baltimore (0-1) and then it has a chance to play under the lights at the Reds’ Great American Ball Park against Houston (1-0).

The quarterfinals begin Friday.
