The Vulcan Basketball Camp – featuring former coach Jimmy Yagi – is thriving this year.

According to a school release, 199 players ages eight through 17 took part Monday at the start of camp, which is running at UH-Hilo gym and Panaewa gym.

In addition to coaches GE Coleman and David Kaneshiro, former coach Bob Wilson and one of Yagi’s standout guards, Bill O’Rear (the T-H’s former longtime sports editor), are also camp instructors.

“We exceeded our goals,” Vulcans athletic director Pat Guillen said in a release. “We are grateful that so many area coaches came out to support and to also have Coach Jimmy Yagi, Bob Wilson and Bill O’Rear here, too, is amazing.”

The camp runs through Thursday.
