Grass fire causes lane closure on Highway 19

Emergency response vehicles are framed by grass fire smoke after a single lane of traffic was reopened late Monday afternoon on Highway 19. The spread from a vehicle to the grass and caused closure of both lanes of Highway 19 between Paauilo and Ookala at mile marker 32.5 for a short period late Monday afternoon. Within minutes, however, fire crews had made enough progress to get a single lane of the highway reopen. The cause of the vehicle fire was unknown, the Fire Department said Tuesday morning. The vehicle was unoccupied and there were no injuries.
