“Artists Without Borders: A Tradigital Exhibition” will be presented July 7-27 at the Wailoa Center.

“Artists Without Borders: A Tradigital Exhibition” will be presented July 7-27 at the Wailoa Center.

There will be an opening reception for the artists from 5-7 p.m. July 7 at the center. The event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.

The exhibit is coordinated by David Hubbard, who selected artists based on their use of traditional art medium, digital art medium or a combination of both.

“Tradigital: A blending of traditional and digital processes, media and techniques in the creation of artworks,” Hubbard explains. “Applied to artists, it signifies those who work traditionally and digitally, or both together, to create their art.

“To most people, traditional art and digital art are seen as occupying two separate territories in the art world. The gap between the two was once a chasm, but improved digital technology has bridged that gap.”

Hubbard said the exhibition “will showcase the work of some Big Island artists who cross freely between the two territories, who are comfortable in both. Some work exhibited will be traditional, some digital, most will be tradigital.

“Come, enjoy the diversity of these tradigital artists — you might even learn something.”

In addition to Hubbard, exhibiting artists are: Liz Ambrose, Eva Anderson, Rod Cameron, Kamuela Chandler, Michael Cromwell, Robert Danhieux Douglas, Ed Goldstein, Daniel Hoskins, Maile Lu‘uwai, Jacob Medina, Robbyn Peck, Clegg Robinson, Joseph Ruesing, Aza Summers and Robert Weiss.

There will be an artist’s binder at the front desk that contains each artist’s statement, images and biography.
