A Thursday afternoon brush fire blackened about 3.6 acres of undeveloped land in Puna’s Orchidland Estates subdivision.

According to a written Fire Department statement, 10 units responded to the 2:38 p.m. alarm with a county helicopter doing aerial reconnaissance of the fire at the corner of Orchidland Drive and 35th Avenue.

The first unit arrived on-scene at 2:50 p.m. The fire was reported under control at 3:20 p.m. and extinguished a half-hour later.

No developed property was damaged and no injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire, which was fueled by drought conditions and fanned by winds, hasn’t been determined.
