Astrobash, a fascinating astronomy-themed festival, blasts off Wednesday at Thelma Parker Memorial Public Library in Waimea.

Astrobash, a fascinating astronomy-themed festival, blasts off Wednesday at Thelma Parker Memorial Public Library in Waimea.

The space celebration is from 4:30-7 p.m. at the library, 67-1209 Mamalahoa Highway. The program is free and is suitable for explorers of all ages. Contact the library in advance to request a sign language interpreter or if other special accommodation is needed.

Astrobash will feature scientists affiliated with local observatories and science, technology, engineering and mathematics educators who will help participants better understand NASA planetary science and exploration.

There will be hands-on space experiments, a planetarium, face-painting, games and more.

Thelma Parker library is one of 75 public libraries to be part of the NASA My Library initiative to engage public audiences nationwide in informal and lifelong learning with the excitement of NASA exploration and discovery.

As a NASA My Library partner, Thelma Parker is offering free programs and activities for various age groups that explore NASA science and technology. The programs will take place between June 2017 and October 2018. A program schedule is available at the library.
