The Big Island Trap Club participated in a Pacific International Trapshooting Association shoot earlier this month, with participants shooting 50 targets:

Sub-gauge: Neil Arakaki and Dexter Egdamin 46

The next registered shoot will be held 9 a.m.-3 p.m. July 2 at the county trap and skeet range.

• Neil Arakaki was the top shot at a B.A.D. Company compact sporting clay shoot at the county trap and skeet range. The top guns in the 100-target event:

1. Neil Arakaki, 54

2. Branning Sung, 51

3. Tracy Lewis, 49.

The next club shoot will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.

Wilford Navalta aced the 133-yard No. 16 at Hilo Municipal Golf Course, using a 7-wood.

Alan Miyahira, Roy Navalta and Tom Yamamoto witnessed Navalta’s second hole-in-one.

Slow pitch softball classic

Hawaiian Isle Athletics will host its Slow Pitch Softball Classic Tournament July 21-23 at Wong Stadium, Walter Victor Complex and Gilbert Carvalho Park. Divisions: men’s open, 40’s, 50’s and women’s. Deadline for early registration is June 30.

Volleyball clinic at UHH

A volleyball clinic for boys and girls ages 12-18 will be held on Sundays in July featuring UH-Hilo volleyball coach Gene Krieger and Poli Olevao-Kahapea, head coach and founder of A Mother’s Prayer Volleyball Club and UH-Hilo alumnae.

The fee is $40 per day, with check-in at 12:30 p.m. and clinics running 1-4 p.m. at July 9, 16, 23 and 30 at UH-Hilo gym. Coaches will cover different aspects of volleyball during each session.
