In a release Thursday, the club announced the Hammerheads will play 20 games in a season that begins in November and ends in March. Ten of those games will be played at home, the release said, not specifying an arena.
“We have worked since 2016 on bringing professional basketball to the state of Hawaii,” Kevin Williams, president of basketball operations, said in a release. “It is a great feeling to say we now changed that dream to a reality.”
On the team’s Facebook page, it promoted The Battle of the Big Island, to be held Aug. 5 at UH-Hilo gym. On the schedule that day, according to a poster, are high school games between East and West teams for boys and girls and a matchup between the Hawaii Hammerheads and the Kauai Stars.
Yada in position
Hilo’s Britney Yada shot 1-over 73 on Thursday at the Manulife LPGA Classic in Cambridge, Ontario, as she tries to make her first cut on the top women’s professional tour.
The projected cut line after Friday’s second round is even-par.
With birdies on Nos. 9 and 15, Yada was huming along at 1-under until she double-bogeyed the par-3 17th.
