West Hawaii Today is reporting that three people were killed a the wreck involving a Toyota 4-Runner and a white Nissan Titan.

West Hawaii Today is reporting that three people were killed a the wreck involving a Toyota 4-Runner and a white Nissan Titan.

Police and fire rescue personnel are on the scene of the multiple-car crash north of Ellison Onizuka Kona International Airport.

A passenger in the Nissan was transported to the hospital.

Police say the crash occurred between 6:30 and 7 a.m. on Queen Kaahumanu Highway about a mile north of the airport.

Officials say the Toyota was heading northbound when it tried to overtake another vehicle and collided with the Nissan, which was headed southbound. Both vehicles subsequently burst into flames.

Queen Kaahumanu Highway will remain closed between Waikoloa Road and Kaiminani Drive until further notice.
