Police are investigating an apparent Monday morning drowning in South Kohala.

Police are investigating an apparent Monday morning drowning in South Kohala.

At 9:37 a.m., officers responded to a report of an unresponsive man pulled out of Makaiwa Bay, which is located off of South Kaniku Drive in the Kohala Coast resort area.

Arriving officers found Hawaii Fire Department medics performing CPR before transporting the victim to North Hawaii Community Hospital.

The victim pronounced dead at 10:55 a.m. His identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Police have begun a coroner’s inquest and ordered an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
