From Hawaii County Civil Defense:

The National Weather Service has issued a flood advisory for the Big Island.

Areas that could potentially affected include North Kohala, Hamakua, Hilo, and Puna.

“Area residents in flood-prone areas are asked to be on the alert for possible flooding conditions,” Civil Defense advises. “Stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low lying areas prone to flooding.”

Motorists should drive with caution because “road closures can occur without notice at any time.” Also, watch for hazardous driving conditions from ponding, and for reduced visibility.

Weather officials say do not cross fast-flowing or rising water with your vehicle, or when walking.

Their mantra is “turn around, don’t drown.”
