Police apprehended a 24-year-old Hilo man in connection with two incidents involving a car stolen early Tuesday morning in Pepeekeo.

Officers arrested Harvey Damo Jr. without incident at 2 p.m. Thursday at a home in the 1800 block of Kaumana Drive in Hilo. An off-duty officer passing by the home recognized the stolen vehicle parked on the property, police said. On-duty officers responded to the house and found Damo inside the car.

On Wednesday evening, the car’s 20-year-old owner saw his car at a gas station parking lot in the 1100 block of Kilauea Avenue in Hilo. As the man approached the car, which police say was being driven by Damo, it sped out of the parking lot nearly hitting the victim.

Damo was arrested on suspicion of theft and terroristic threatening and was being held at the Hilo cellblock while detectives investigate the incidents.

Damo was arrested and charged for two unrelated counts of contempt of court. His was bail set at $2,400.

Anyone with information about either the theft or the terroristic threatening incidents is asked to call the police nonemergency number at 935-3311 or Crime Stoppers at 961-8300.
