The BIIF champion Ka Makani fell to Roosevelt 14-4 in the quarterfinals on Thursday. The OIA runner-up Rough Riders stymied Hawaii Prep’s speedy attack, and moved into the semifinals, where they will face defending state champion Punahou.
Taylor Brooks scored nine goals for OIA runner-up Roosevelt.
Taylor Doherty, Nora Healy, Ava Jean Johnston and Janelle Laros netted goals for Hawaii Prep, which won its first BIIF title in a decade this season, but will have to settle to rebound in the consolation bracket today against Lahainaluna at 4 p.m.
Also on Thursday, Kahuku got the best of BIIF runner-up Kealakehe 14-2 in the quarters.
Skyler Hudson and Maiana Villegas tallied the goals for Kealakehe, which will face Baldwin in the consolation bracket today.
The Waveriders were making their first appearance in the tournament since 2014, and were fresh off the program’s first non-consolation victory, beating Kaiser in the first round 9-6.
The OIA champion Red Raiders are making their 14th appearance in the tourney, qualifying for every state tournament since its inception in 2004. Kahuku moved to 27-14 in state tournament matches, but have never won a title.
The BIIF has never won a state title in the sport. Hawaii Prep and Hilo both own third place finishes at the tourney, but that is the highest a team from the Big Island has finished.
Punahou remained a perfect 34‐0 in state tournament play, rolling past Lahainaluna 17-0. The Buffanblu have won the state title ever year they have qualified for the tournament.
