Le Jardin’s Justin Shuman defeated Assi, the league runner-up, 6-3, 2-6 (9) at the Royal Lahaina Tennis Ranch on Maui.

The only other seeded singles BIIF bits player was Hawaii Prep freshman Ryo Minakata, a No. 3 seed, who beat Maui High’s Hobbes Wilstead 6-2, 4-2 (retired).

At the BIIF championships, Minakata upset Assi, the defending champ.

The other five seeded BIIF players or teams all won.

In doubles, No. 6 Kealakehe’s Brett Guccione/Cameron Ventura def. Roosevelt’s Ryan Moux/Jordan Takaba, 6-3, 6-3.

In girls singles, No. 4 Konawaena junior Tayvia Yamagata def. Mililani’s Kylie Hull, 6-2 6-0.

No. 5 Waiakea freshman Keilyn Kunimoto def. Maryknoll’s Katie Nishimura, 6-1, 6-1.

In girls doubles, No. 3 Kealakehe’s Michelle Uyeda/April Wong def. King Kekaulike’s Jaccie Hisashima/Emi Abe, 6-1, 6-2.

No. 4 Waiakea freshmen Maile Brilhante/Anna Oda def. Seabury Hall’s Olivia Hoekstra/Jessica Griffths, 6-0, 6-0.
