Palliative care clinic hosting talk

Kupu Care, a community based palliative care program offered in East Hawaii by Hospice of Hilo, is inviting the public to a free community talk titled, “Why Does Everyone Need an Advance Health Care Directive” from 5-6 p.m. May 3 at the organization’s Community Building, 1011 Waianuenue Ave. in Hilo.

The session will be presented by Kupu Care’s clinical relations manager Lani Weigert.

Architecture film screenings offered

In observance of Architecture Month across the state, the Hawaii Island Section of the Honolulu Chapter of the American Institute of Architects invites the public to join in free double-feature film presentations focusing on the process of design.

“Design &Thinking,” directed by Mu-Ming Tsai, and “3 warp-speed architectural tales,” a TED talk by Bjarke Ingels, will be screened on two occasions: at 6 p.m. Thursday at W.M. Keck Observatory Headquarters, Hualalai Learning Theater, 65-1120 Mamalahoa Highway, in Waimea (contact Aaron Spielman, 937-5511), and 5:15 p.m. Friday at the Hawaii Innovation Center Conference Room, 117 Keawe St. in Hilo (contact Terry Cisco at 937-8953).

Lodging, tourism run/walk May 13

The Hawaii Lodging &Tourism Association’s annual Visitor Industry Charity Walk for Hawaii Island is set for May 13 with registration at Waikoloa Resort’s Queens’ Marketplace and post-event festivities in the Waikoloa Bowl.

The entry fee is $25 for children ages 5-12 and $35 for adults. Runners start at 6:45 a.m. and walkers begin at 7 a.m.

In 2016, the Visitor Industry Charity Walk raised $2 million statewide for nonprofit organizations, including more than $305,000 from Hawaii Island. Hawaii Island’s goal for 2017 is $315,000.

There will be entertainment, children’s activities and more than a dozen food stations, said Hawaii Island Charity Walk co-chairman Steve Yannarell, general manager, Waikoloa Beach Marriott Resort &Spa.

‘Paradise Run’ seeking talent

MysticArt Pictures is back in Hawaii and auditioning kid teams of two for the hit competition Nickelodeon game show, “Paradise Run.”

The game will film in Hawaii in May and June.

Auditions are taking place in Hawaii for teams of two (ages 11-14) of siblings, cousins, neighbors, classmates and best friends who are extremely competitive, confident and full of energy. Parents can apply for their kids at www.mysticartpictures.com by May 12.
