Good statement for Hawaii AJA
The Hawaii AJA All-Stars rallied their way to reach the championship game of the 82nd annual state tournament before losing to Oahu.
On April 8 at Hans L’Orange Field in Waipahu, Oahu, the Big Islanders scored four runs in the ninth inning to edge Maui 9-8.
In the ninth, Aaron Nishiura, Shannon Camero, Ridge Hoopii-Haslam, Ryder Oshiro, Jordan Jinbo and Devin Iwahashi had key hits, with Iwahashi driving in Jinbo with the eventual winning run from second base.
In the bottom of the ninth, Cortney Arruda retired Maui in order with two strikeouts to earn the win.
Hawaii finished with 12 hits. Ryder Oshiro led the way with two doubles and a single and Camero, Alton Penrose and Jinbo posted two hits apiece.
On April 9 at Les Murakami Stadium in Honolulu, Oahu powered past Hawaii 21-7.
Camero, the Hawaii AJA MVP, collected three hits and Arruda had two hits. Penrose took the loss.
Water polo, swim lessons at Kamehameha
Swimming and water polo lessons will be held in June and July at Kamehameha’s Naeole Pool, with proceeds benefiting the Warriors’ water polo team.
The session dates are June 5-16 (10 classes), June 19-30 (10 classes) and July 3-14 (nine classes).
Early walk-in registration is 2:30-5:30 p.m. April 26-28 at Naeole Pool ($10 off sign-ups).
Email registration will be accepted beginning May 2.

Bicycle-safety programs on tap
P.A.T.H. (People’s Advocacy for Trails Hawaii ) and the county Parks and Recreation will hold a bicycle-safety Program on May 6 at Kekuaokalani Gym and May 20 at the Hoolulu Complex.
The program is open to ages 9-12 and will be held from 8:30-10 a.m. both days.
P.A.T.H. will provide 50 bicycles and helmets to use during the program.

Participants may bring their own equipment.
Vuls’ Kaleikini honored again
For the second week in a row, UH-Hilo’s Brinell Kaleikini was selected as the Pacific West Conference Freshman of the Week.
While the Vulcans celebrated Senior Day on Saturday, Kaleikini helped the Vulcans to a doubleheader sweep of Chaminade, going 4 for 7 with a double, a home run and four RBIs.
On the season, the Honolulu native (Moanalua High) has started all 40 of UHH’s game this year and is hitting .265 with 21 runs scored, three home runs and 21 RBIs.
The Vulcans will travel to the Laie, Oahu, for Friday and Saturday doubleheaders at BYU-Hawaii.
