Ruggles to speak at League of Women’s Voters meeting

Current, former and prospective members as well as other interested people are invited to join the League of Women Voters of Hawaii County to hear County Council member Jennifer “Jen” Ruggles speak during the organization’s annual meeting April 22 at Tex Drive In in Honokaa.

Current, former and prospective members as well as other interested people are invited to join the League of Women Voters of Hawaii County to hear County Council member Jennifer “Jen” Ruggles speak during the organization’s annual meeting April 22 at Tex Drive In in Honokaa.

The meeting starts with registration at 9:30 a.m. followed by a welcome and call to order for the business meeting at 10 a.m. by vice president Erica Johnson. The business meeting will include the election of incoming directors and officers, adoption of the budget and program for FY 2017-18, proposed amendments to the bylaws and recognition of outgoing officers and directors.

Ruggles’ talk will start promptly at 11 a.m. She will discuss her priorities as a new council member followed by a question-and-answer period.

Ruggles was elected as District 5 council member and serves as chairwoman of the committees on Public Safety and Mass Transit and Public Works and Parks and Recreation, and vice chairwoman of the Committee on Governmental Relations and Economic Development.

She was born in Hilo, raised on Hawaii Island and is a Keaau High School graduate.

On leave this semester, she is working on a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a specialization in management from the University of Hawaii at Hilo’s College of Business and Economics.

Since 2015, she has been the marketing manager and accountant for Absolute Tree Care LLC.
