The public is invited to attend a luncheon award ceremony to honor winners of the “Real Women” creative writing essay competition sponsored by the Hawaii County Committee on the Status of Women from 10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. April 9 at the Hilton Waikoloa Village Resort.

For the “Real Women” essay contest, students looked at the lives of women they knew in their family or community and saw the many ways in which these women contributed to a shared history. The competition was open to students in grades 5-12 from public and private schools throughout Hawaii County. Students will read their winning essays as part of the award ceremony.

The cost for the buffet lunch is $30 for adults and $20 for children ages 5-12. Payment must be received by April 3 and sent by mail or made in person at the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney, 655 Kilauea Ave. in Hilo. For inquiries, call Lisa Faulkner-Inouye at 961-0466.
