Susan “Susie” Kathleen Francis, 68, of Waikoloa died Feb. 18 at home. Robert McBurney Kempa, 92, of Naalehu died Feb. 3 at home. Born in Harbin, China, he was a Kona coffee farmer, worked for the University of Hawaii at Manoa in the Mechanical Engineering Department, witnessed the Dec. 7, 1941, attack on Pearl Harbor, volunteered in recovery efforts and was a Merchant Marine during World War II.
