E Mau Na Ala Hele, a nonprofit trails advocacy group dedicated to protecting the ancient and historic trails of Hawaii and the cultural and natural environments surrounding them, will conduct its annual meeting at 9 a.m. Feb. 26 in Waikoloa.
E Mau Na Ala Hele, a nonprofit trails advocacy group dedicated to protecting the ancient and historic trails of Hawaii and the cultural and natural environments surrounding them, will conduct its annual meeting at 9 a.m. Feb. 26 in Waikoloa.
Participants should meet just north of the gas station at Kings Shops at the Waikoloa Resort. After a short business meeting, the group will hear from guest speaker Rick Gmirkin, archaeologist with the Ala Kahakai National Historic Trail, about some of the archaeology in the area.
Gmirkin then will walk with the group through the petroglyph preserve near the meeting place.
All interested are welcome to attend. Participants should bring a beach chair or mat for seating during the business meeting, water for the walk and wear closed-toe shoes for walking on a rough, unpaved path. The event will conclude before noon.
