Robert Wagner was promoted from captain to major, effective Jan. 1, the Hawaii Police Department announced Friday.

Robert Wagner was promoted from captain to major, effective Jan. 1, the Hawaii Police Department announced Friday.

Wagner now is in charge of Area II Operations in Kona.

Wagner, who joined the department in 1986, has had assignments in Hilo, Ka‘u, Puna and Kona.

From 2006-08, he was the lieutenant in charge of the Kona Criminal Investigations Section.

As a captain, he was in command of the Hilo Patrol Division and, most recently, the Hilo Criminal Investigations Division, overseeing the Criminal Investigations, Vice Section and Juvenile Aid sections in East Hawaii.

Wagner was named “Hawaii County Manager of the Year” for 2016.
