Streetlight needed

Streetlight needed

I’m voicing my deep, alarming concern about all the accidents taking place on Highway 130, mainly between Ainaloa and Shower Drive.

Just last week we lost the life of young women who was trying to get across from Pohaku Drive onto Highway 130.

If our representatives don’t see this urgent need for a streetlight we will continue to see more fatalities. The amount of traffic on this road is just getting worse.

Two suggestions

A recent Tribune-Herald article about the nearly renovated Mo‘oheau Bandstand mentioned Hula Tuesdays, where musical performances are often hosted. How about moving Hula Tuesdays to Hula Wednesdays or Hula Saturdays because that is when the Hilo Farmers Market is the most active?

This way, local and outside visitors can enjoy both activities together. Other than Wednesdays and Saturdays, there is only a skeleton crew working at the Hilo Farmers Market and no craft vendors across the street.

Also, why are tour buses dropping off visiting cruise ship passengers at a big box store for their shopping rather than dropping them off along the Bayfront area where the small business owners could get a boost in sales?

A joy to read

The letters to Santa from the Big Island’s keiki were a joy and pleasure to read (Tribune-Herald, Dec. 23). They brought a warmth and humor to the Christmas season that only children can provide.

That is their gift to those of us who are fortunately able to enjoy the spirit of the holidays.

Merry Christmas to all!
