Coming off its first HHSAA Division II boys soccer championship and returning its core, Hawaii Prep figured to be good.

Coming off its first HHSAA Division II boys soccer championship and returning its core, Hawaii Prep figured to be good.

But this good?

Waiakea was the latest victim Tuesday in Waimea, as Toby Balaam collected a natural hat trick to help Ka Makani roll to a familiar 5-0 victory.

“They are really good,” Warriors coach David Urakami said. “I wish we could play them every week so we could get better.”

The BIIF schedule is set up in three tiers, but so far HPA (6-0) is in a tier by itself, outscoring the opposition 29-3. Ka Makani have yet to allow more than a goal in match this season, and it’s scored five in every match but one, including four five-goal victories

After Balaam made the score 3-0, Jake Schneider and Brendan Moynahan added goals, handing the Warriors (4-1) their first loss.

Jake Schneider, Braden Kojima, Chris Chock and Chris Whitfield were credited with assists and Stormer Horton secured the shutout.

“They are very organized and they play like a college team.” Urakami said. “Their tactics are very sound.”
