Hawaii County Civil Defense has sent a message to let residents know that “There is no Tsunami threat to the Island of Hawaii.”

A tsunami watch had been issued by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center after a 7.8 magnitude earthquake near the Solomon Islands. But that watch was cancelled.

The Warning Center posted its cancellation as of 8:36 a.m. this morning, saying, “Based on all available data, there is no tsunami threat to the state of Hawaii. Therefore the tsunami watch for Hawaii is now cancelled.”
