The Boys &Girls Club of the Big Island received a welcomed jolt Friday when the Hawaii Electric Light Co. and HEI Charitable Foundation presented the club with a Smart electric car.

The Boys &Girls Club of the Big Island received a welcomed jolt Friday when the Hawaii Electric Light Co. and HEI Charitable Foundation presented the club with a Smart electric car.

“Awesome!” said Chad Cabral, BGCBI CEO. “That’s what our kids said when they discovered we were being gifted with an electric vehicle. It is truly awesome to let them examine an actual electric engine as we implement the lessons on sustainability and science.

“It is an impactful message to our youth members to malama aina. And the staff is looking forward to driving it.”
