The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness and basic warfare principles and skills.
Vermeulen is the son of Francie Whitfield of Aiea, Oahu, and Bernard Matatumua-Vermeulen of Captain Cook, and stepson of Josie Sootino-Siaki of Captain Cook.
He is a 2015 graduate of Konawaena High School.
