James Dias Souza, 73, of Honokaa died Sept. 10 at The Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu. Born in Honokaa, He was retired from the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. Memorial service 2 p.m. Saturday (Oct. 22) at Kahilu Town Hall in Waimea. Casual attire. Survived by son, Michael Souza of Terre Haute, Ind.; daughter, Julie Vazquez-Souza of San Diego; brothers, Adrian Souza of Keaau and Clifford (Shirley) Souza of Hilo; sisters, Bernie Souza of Hilo and Marie Ho of Honokaa; three grandchildren; numerous nephews, nieces and cousins. Sanford Yasutaro Yanagi, 91, of Hilo died Sept. 26 at the Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home. Born in Holualoa, he was a retired district state tax administrator, U.S. Army World War II veteran, 442nd Regimental Headquarters, former member of the U.S. Army Reserve and member of New Hope Church. Private services held. No koden (monetary gifts). No flowers. Survived by sons, Randall (Sharon) Yanagi of Honolulu, Gary (Leah) Yanagi and Tracy (Lori) Yanagi of Hilo; brother, Raymond (Doris) Yanagi of Kona; sister-in-law, Yvonne Souza of Hilo; six grandchildren, one great-grandchild, numerous nieces and nephews.
