For much of her career, the UH-Hilo volleyball team can best be described as “Marley and the Others.”

For much of her career, the UH-Hilo volleyball team can best be described as “Marley and the Others.”

Too often, especially against top opponents, Marley Strand-Nicolaisen has had to shoulder a heavy load and the Vulcans usually lost.

It was a similar scenario, again, as Cal Baptist swept UHH 25-22, 25-12, 25-16 in a PacWest match on Wednesday at Riverside, Calif.

Strand-Nicolaisen slammed 13 kills on 35 swings with five errors for a .229 hitting percentage to lead the Vuls (4-5, 2-2 PacWest).

The rest of her teammates struggled: Katrina Johnson (eight kills, negative .048 average), Siera Green (seven kills, .037), and Armani Moultrie (three kills, .000).

The Vuls finished with a .103 hitting clip and made 23 hitting errors and did nothing better than the Lancers (10-3, 5-0), who hit .513 and committed only three errors.

Cal Baptist had better stats in aces (2-0), kills (42-34), blocks (7-2), and digs (41-27).

Three Lancers feasted on UHH’s defense: Lauren Hackett (13 kills, .478), Jenna Perry (12 kills, .500), and Lauren Marr (10 kills, .526).
