The Department of Public Safety said Wednesday 34-year-old Shawn Kaawa was serving time for possession of drug paraphernalia. He now faces a possible charge of second-degree escape, a Class C felony punishable by up to five years in prison.

Police and state sheriffs were notified.

Inmates in the extended furlough program live and work outside of the facility but must check in at various times throughout the month.

Kaawa is described as 5-foot-4, 165 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.

Anyone who sees him or knows his whereabouts is urged to call the police nonemergency number at 935-3311.
