The College of Continuing Education and Community Service at the University of Hawaii at Hilo is offering a pair of courses about Korean culture.
All sessions will take place in UH-Hilo’s Science and Technology Building, Room 226. Tuition is $50 for each class or $80 for both. Instructor Aaron Martinson lived and taught in South Korea for eight years. He has a master’s degree in education from Capella University, and an undergraduate degree in film production from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
• Exploring Korean Culture: Cultural History will focus on the three kingdoms — Gogoreyo, Joseon and modern history. Participants will learn about important historical events that provide a window into the culture of the “Land of the Morning Calm.”
Sessions are 4:30-6:30 p.m. Mondays, Oct. 10-24.
• Exploring Korean Culture: Arts, Food and More will guide participants through the basics of Korean culture, with a focus on the music, food, art and social norms, along with recommendations on places to visit for new and repeat travelers to South Korea.
