Well-known singer-guitarist Guy Cruz, who lived in Pahoa, died late Thursday night after an illness, an immediate family member confirmed. He was 49.

Cruz was the younger brother of Ernie Cruz Jr. of the Ka‘au Crater Boys, who died Tuesday after being found unresponsive in the water at Oahu’s Sandy Beach.

Singer Amy Hanaiali‘i, a cousin, posted news of Cruz’s passing this morning on Facebook, saying it was with “an even heavier heart” that she reported news of Guy Cruz’s passing just days after the news of Ernie Cruz Jr.’s death shocked Hawaii.

Their father, Ernie Cruz Sr., a well-known musician, pastor and patriarch of the Cruz musical dynasty, died May 14 in Arizona.
