Carolyn Ma, interim dean of the University of Hawaii at Hilo Daniel K. Inouye College of Pharmacy, has been recommended to permanently fill the position.

UH-Hilo Chancellor Donald Straney announced his decision Wednesday in an internal email to pharmacy students and faculty. The decision still must be formally approved by the Board of Regents at its upcoming September meeting.

A year-long search for a permanent hire was unsuccessful, Straney said. In November, the college had narrowed its search to five candidates but officials say none were the right fit.

Ma has served as interim dean for a year. She came to the school in 2007 as the clinical education coordinator, and in 2009 became chair for pharmacy practice.
