Three East Hawaii students each were selected to receive $1,000 scholarships from the Kinoole Farmers Market, an affiliate of the Hawaii Farm Bureau.
Three East Hawaii students each were selected to receive $1,000 scholarships from the Kinoole Farmers Market, an affiliate of the Hawaii Farm Bureau.
The students were honored for their outstanding academics and service to agriculture.
The recipients are:
• KaMele Eileen Sanchez, a graduate of Honokaa High School. Sanchez is a sophomore at Colorado State University, majoring in ecosystem science and sustainability.
As a CSU student, she worked for the College of Agriculture with the Bioagricultural and Pest Management Department and the USDA Agriculture Research Service in Colorado.
Sanchez is the daughter of Jaymie Sanchez of Honokaa.
• Royden Domingo Tagalicud was valedictorian of his class at Keaau High School and will attend the University of Hawaii at Hilo, majoring in computer science. Tagalicud works on his family’s farm and says communication, finance management and technology training are partners for agriculture success and growth.
Tagalicud is the son of Rodrigo and Gloria Tagalicud of Keaau.
• Mark Andrew Riki Tanouye, a graduate of Christian Liberty Academy. Tanouye is a sophomore at UH-Hilo majoring in tropical horticulture, and made the dean’s list his freshman year.
Tanouye works in the family-operated anthurium business Green Point Nurseries and aspires to do agricultural work and research for the state. Tanouye is the son of Eric and Lolita Tanouye of Keaau.
