Ken Yamase Memorial Stadium dedication
Waiakea High School will hold a dedication of the Ken Yamase Memorial Stadium at 10 a.m. Saturday, preceding a preseason football game between the Warriors and Kamehameha-Hawaii.
The stadium is named after Ken Yamase, the former Waiakea athletic director and BIIF executive director. Yamase lobbied the Legislature during his 17-year tenure as AD to get money for the construction of the campus facility. The stadium has finally reached its completion seven years after his passing.
The dedication will be followed by a preseason game with the junior varsity at 11 a.m., followed by the varsity about 1:30 p.m. Saturday.
In the only other BIIF preseason game, Honokaa will play Wailua on Oahu at 7 p.m. Saturday night.
Gates will be open for spectator entrance after the dedication ceremony.
According to Waiakea AD Tom Correa, tents will not be allowed in the stadium, and spectators are not allowed to bring in chairs or food. Umbrellas are allowed.
The stadium has a seating capacity of 1,400 people on aluminum bleachers (similar to Keaau and Kamehameha). A concession and restroom facilities are available in the new stadium. Waiakea High will maintain its No Re-Entry Policy.
Correa said spectators will not be allowed to smoke or consume alcohol anywhere on the campus, and parking for the event will encompass the gym parking lot, the faculty parking (fronting the school) and the student parking lot in marked stalls only.

Ohana Shoreline Fishing deadline extended
The registration deadline for the ‘Ohana Shoreline Fishing Tournament has been extended until Friday, Aug. 12. The event will be held Aug. 19-21, with weigh-ins conducted Sunday, Aug. 21, at Honokaa Gym.
