The department, following the completion of an environmental assessment, is asking for input from the forest industry regarding resources, markets, products and other criteria by Sept. 2.
That information will help the department draft a request for proposals for harvesting in the 12,000-acre management area.
The trees were planted starting in 1959 and have now grown to maturity.
Tree species include eucalyptus, Queensland maple and toon.
An RFP is expected to be issued in September.
