Kevin Hayashi Hayashi advanced to his second senior major championship this year, winning a three-way playoff Monday at a U.S. Senior Open qualifier at Leilehua Golf Course on Oahu.

Kevin Hayashi Hayashi advanced to his second senior major championship this year, winning a three-way playoff Monday at a U.S. Senior Open qualifier at Leilehua Golf Course on Oahu.

Hayashi, the club pro at Hilo Municipal Golf Course, birdied Nos. 15 and 16 and finished at even-par 72, and then he outlasted Brandan Kop and Weng Young, making birdie again on No. 15 to end the playoff after six holes.

The Senior Open will be held Aug. 11-14 in Columbus, Ohio.

In May, Hayashi competed at the Senior PGA Championship.
