A Puna man was arrested and charged with burglary in connection with a break-in in Keaau in May.

On May 12, a 25-year-old man reported that he woke up to discover a stranger in his house on the 16-200 block of Ilima Street. The unknown man reportedly took the victim’s car key and fled on foot.

A witness in the house recorded the suspect on his cellphone, which helped police identify him as 26-year-old Xanthin Melekalikimaka Berdon of Pahoa.

Berdon was arrested Tuesday and charged with first-degree burglary and two no-bail counts of violating probation. His bail for the burglary was set at $25,000.

He is scheduled to make his initial court appearance today.
