West Hawaii Community Health Center in partnership with Donkey Mill Art Center is hosting the second annual Art Is Healing multimedia juried exhibition in an effort to continue building a permanent collection of art for the new West Hawaii Community Health Center-Kealakehe.

“West Hawaii Community Health Center believes that art can inspire lifelong health and wellness as well as aid in the healing process,” said Richard Taaffe, the health center’s director. “Art connects us to our community and we want it to cover our walls.”

Interested artists are encouraged to interpret and explore the concept of Art Is Healing and can submit pieces from all disciplines in visual arts, including wood, fiber, clay, metal, drawing, painting, prints and photography. Artists are limited to two submissions and each art piece must include a completed entry form with description and signed agreement.

All accepted works will be considered for purchase, especially those that build on the health center’s vision of health, humanity and community well-being for the people of Hawaii Island.

The submission deadline is Sept. 2. All artwork must be hand-delivered from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. to West Hawaii Community Health Center-Kealakehe, 74-5214 Keanalehu Drive.

The health center will host an Art Is Healing opening reception Sept. 30.

For more information about submissions or to receive entry forms, contact Donkey Mill Art Center at 322-3362 or donkeymill@gmail.com, or call West Hawaii Community Health Center at 326-3878.
