The Big Island Chapter of the Hawaii Association of Public Accountants recently awarded five scholarships totaling $3,500 to five students pursuing accounting degrees.

The Big Island Chapter of the Hawaii Association of Public Accountants recently awarded five scholarships totaling $3,500 to five students pursuing accounting degrees.

Applicants are judged based on academic achievement, involvement in extracurricular activities, a personal letter of introduction and financial need.

The awardees include:

• Christopher Hu, a 2013 Waiakea High School graduate attending Linfield (Ore.) College.

• Jubylen Teehee, a 2014 Hawaii Community College graduate attending the University of Hawaii at Hilo.

• Sangkueon Kim, Hawaii Community College.

• Allana Nicole Picana, Hawaii Community College.

• Rebecca Tangpalan, a 2010 Hilo High School graduate attending Hawaii Community College.

HAPA is a statewide organization of accounting professionals that offers continuing professional education and fellowship among the business community. The Big Island Chapter includes more than 80 certified public accountants, public accountants and associates.
