Hospice of Hilo is inviting the public to its free in-service presentation titled “Mindful Caring” from 4-5:30 p.m. Monday at the organization’s Community Building, 1011 Waianuenue Ave. in Hilo.

The session will be presented by Hospice of Hilo’s spiritual counselor Rebekah Bernard and will explore the concept and ways to practically apply mindful caring in the lives of everyone.

Bernard has a master’s degree in counseling psychology from the University of Hawaii at Hilo. She has been a student of interdisciplinary spirituality for more than a decade and has extensive education and experience with meditation and other forms of self-care.

“This is really a great opportunity for the community to get together to learn more about the core of caring mindfully for a person and cultivating present moment compassion that remains free from judgment, while nurturing awareness,” Bernard said.

Hospice of Hilo provides specialized comfort care for patients facing a life-limiting or serious illness. Services are delivered to patients in their place of residence, or at the Pohai Malama a Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Care Center. The hospice also provides bereavement counseling to any and all residents who have lost a loved one (regardless of whether the loved one received hospice care).
