State Supreme Court Chief Justice Mark Recktenwald appointed M. Kanani Laubach a District Family Court judge on Hawaii Island.

Laubach has been in private practice in Hilo since 2011, and, if confirmed by the state Senate, will fill the vacancy created by the appointment of Melvin Fujino to Circuit Court. Her term will be for six years.

From 2006-10, Laubach served as a county deputy prosecutor. In 2007, she joined the Violent Crime Unit.

From 2003-06, Laubach worked as a deputy prosecutor in Honolulu.

She currently is serving as vice president of the Hawaii County Bar Association.
