The Hilo chapter of the P.E.O. Sisterhood recently announced the award of an $8,000 educational loan to Josephine Volpe of Volcano, a University of Hawaii at Hilo graduate who currently is enrolled in a marriage family therapy master’s degree program at Argosy University, Hilo.

Volpe is dedicated to becoming part of the healing process for families and individuals in crisis. She is particularly interested in serving those who suffer from PTSD, addiction and facing end-of-life transition.

In addition to her full-time status as a student, Volpe’s community involvement includes hospice work and an internship at Lokahi Drug Treatment Center.

Members of the Hilo P.E.O. chapter are confident Volpe will become an asset to the health care community on the Big Island.

P.E.O. (Philanthropic Educational Organization) Sisterhood was established in 1869.
