Chris Keiter

Sport: golf

Keiter, a former UH-Hilo golfer, lit up the Club at Hokulia last Monday in a local qualifier for the U.S. Open.

Keiter, a PGA Tour Apprentice at Nanea Golf Course in Kailua-Kona, made four birdies and just one bogey en route to a 3-under 69 to take the first qualifying spot.

Later this month, Keiter will find out where he’ll tee off June 6 at sectionals to try and reach the national championship. His first choice is Lake Merced, Calif., though he also could be headed to Japan or Houston.
