UH-Hilo took care of business Friday night against Chaminade, sweeping a doubleheader behind two fine relief appearances by Cyanne Fernandez.

The Vulcans (27-16, 16-8 Pacific West Conference) scored five runs in the sixth inning (Cristina Menjivar hit a two-run single in the sixth and Danielle Pulido ripped a two-run triple) for a 7-2 victory, following that up with a 9-5 victory.

“One of the big things we did was trying to get back to basics and just make contact,” coach Peejay Brun said.

In the nightcap, Victoria Garcia, Cristina Menjivar, Bailey Gaspar and Brittany Huff each had four hits as UH-Hilo finished with 18.

In the first game, Angela Aguinaga was 3 for 3 with a two-run double, and Brandi Wilson was 2 for 4 scoring twice (she went 2 for 3 in the second game with three RBIs.)

Waiakea graduate Chelsea Camello (4-14) took the loss for the Silverswords (11-31, 6-20) in the opener, giving up three runs on nine hits with two walks and two strikeouts pver five innings.

Fernandez (5-1) pitched 6 1/3 innings of scoreless relief, striking out six.
