The state Land Board approved changes to boundaries of some Hawaii Island forest reserves on Friday.

The move added 6,887 acres of former pasture land to the north and west boundaries of the Mauna Kea Forest Reserve; 3,548 acres previously part of a national estuarine research reserve in Waimanu Valley to the Kohala Forest Reserve; and 17.5 acres to the Honuaula Forest Reserve.

A 238-acre parcel granted to the Boys Scouts of America as part of a land exchange in 2004 was removed from the Hamakua Forest Reserve.
